A2LA has been recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to provide accreditation for testing laboratories performing product testing in support of the ENERGY STAR® Program. The requirements for A2LA ENERGY STAR Accreditation are based on the EPA "Conditions and Criteria for Recognition of Laboratories for the ENERGY STAR Program" document which can be obtained here.

To attain A2LA Accreditation for ENERGY STAR testing activities, laboratories are required to fulfill the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2005, as well as the EPA requirements found in the Conditions and Criteria document linked above. These requirements are also set forth in A2LA document R222 - Specific Requirements: EPA ENERGY STAR Accreditation Program. A Scope of Accreditation must be issued to the laboratory which identifies the specific product families being tested, as well as the applicable supporting test methods called out in their respective program requirements documents. A2LA Application Information for EPA Energy Star Product Certification Accreditation:
Additionally, A2LA is now accepting applications for Product Certification Bodies who are seeking accreditation to ISO/IEC Guide 65:1996 for the EPA ENERGY STAR Program. One of the requirements for EPA recognition of a Certification Body is accreditation by an Accreditation Body which is a signatory to the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) Multilateral Recognition Agreement (MLA). The EPA has notified A2LA that they will fully recognize A2LA accredited Certification Bodies on an interim basis, until A2LA obtains the IAF MLA signatory status.
